Day 11: Biscayne National Park

Today was a slow-paced day. We started with going to the Speedway in Homestead. There was no race happening today, so they let us just go up into the stands and look around on our own "self-guided" tour.  That was cool.  Then while we were exploring, 2 fighter jets swooped overhead and screamed by -- we had the perfect seats!  After that, we then went to a locally famous fruit stand called: "Robert is Here". They are known for great fruit milkshakes. We had two, 1 strawberry and 1 strawberry key lime.  Both were delicious. Next it was on to Biscayne National Park for some snorkeling fun! Biscayne Bay has the largest reef in North America, and is the third largest reef in the world.  The boat took us about 1 hour out to a great spot to snorkel.  All of us jumped in, and loved it.   We saw parrotfish, pencil fish, conch, bluehead wrasse, sea fan, brain coral, and much more. Another opportunity to see God's handiwork. Tomorrow it is off to the Everglades.

Ready to jump in!

  1. Hello,

Biscayne National Park protects four distinct ecosystems: the shoreline mangrove swamp, the shallow waters of Biscayne Bay, the coral limestone keys and the offshore Florida Reef. The shoreline swamps of the mainland and island margins provide a nursery for larval and juvenile fish, molluscs and crustaceans.
